LGBTQ Singaporeans Share Their Experiences With Discrimination

Today is National Give Out Day here in the US, a 24 hour online national fundraiser for LGBT organizations, from advocacy groups to sports leagues and community centers to health care nonprofits. In that spirit, I decided to share a message from Oogachaga, a counseling and personal development nonprofit serving the LGBT community in Singapore. In the video, queer Singaporeans share their stories on homophobia from classroom bullying, workplace discrimination, and street harassment. #HateHurts and it’s why it’s critical that organizations like Oogachaga continue to exist to provide mental health support and uplift our community when society tells us that we are perverse and unwanted.

If you are based in the US, please consider supporting queer API organizations today, such as the National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA), Asian and Pacific Islander Wellness Center, API Equality Northern California, API Equality LA, and the San Gabriel Valley Asian Pacific Islander PFLAG. I’ve worked with individuals across all these organizations and they all do excellent work in building up the API LGBT community.
