Follower Fridays is a series of profiles highlighting members of Gaysian Third Space to showcase the diversity of gaysians in the Community. This week’s featured member is @ahhhlvin.
Who are you?
My name is Alvin and I am the child of immigrant refugees from China and Vietnam (but ethnically Chinese!).
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in the east bay area of northern California and currently living in NYC.
What do you do?
I am a mobile app developer, so I enjoy tinkering with things. I am also part of GAPIMNY (Gay Asian Pacific Islander Men In New York) organization which hosts social happy hours, cultural events, and focuses on creating a safe space for gay asians within the NYC metro area.
What are you passionate about?
I’ve recently become very passionate about the Asian American community and enlightening myself with cultures different from my own by having conversation and sharing experiences with others. I am also really passionate about yoga (mind body balance), design, and technology.
What is your dream job (real or fantasy)?
My dream job is to be working in an industry that helps improve the quality of life for a diversity of individuals through creation, disruption, and innovation using technology and design. I would love to be able to utilize my creative side on both the technical and aesthetic side of projects to create universal products to enlighten others.
If you could change the world with one idea, what would it be?
I wish that everyone can become more open-minded about discussing things that are unfamiliar to them and sharing their own experiences as well with others, so that everyone can learn from each other and become more accepting and understanding of backgrounds and cultures other than their own.
