“Saving Face” was the first Asian American queer film I ever watched, and still one of my favorites – I’ve seen it 4 or 5 times! Themes that always deeply emotionally resonate with me: Wil’s social awkwardness; the gray area Wil was in because she came out to her mother but her mother denied it; and the burden of traditional expectations, combined with reminders of the sacrifices our parents made for us. But the comedic tone of the film and the happy ending make “Saving Face” a satisfying watch.
